THE VETERANS CORPORATION IS PLEASED TO ANNOUNCE THE The Veterans Corporation is pleased to announce the winners of the 2008 "Honoring America's Veteran Entrepreneurs" Youth Essay Contest. This year's contest was a huge success, with thoughtful, inspiring essays submitted from around the country. Two of those essays stood out from the rest and were chosen as the winning essays for this year's Youth Essay Contest. In the 12-14 age group, JaQwan Jacob Kelly, a seventh grader from New York, NY, was awarded first place for his essay nominating his father, Jacob Kelly. Mr. Kelly is not only a Veteran, but an active member of the Army Reserves, including a recent tour in Iraq. He is the owner of Beyond the Limit Enterprises, LLC, a company that provides training and consultation to other entrepreneurs and non-profit organizations to assist them in becoming more effective. In the 15-18 age group, first place was awarded to Drexel Allen Shockey Membreno, a twelfth grader from Rossville, TN. Drexel nominated his grandfather, Robert Drexel Shockey, an Army Veteran and Purple Heart recipient. Mr. Shockey is the owner of Drexel Chemical Company, which manufactures and distributes more than 500 different agricultural chemical products to the United States and worldwide. Both first place winners accepted their awards at the 2008 "Honoring America's Veteran Entrepreneurs" Reception and Awards Ceremony, held on Wednesday, February 27, 2008, in Washington, DC.
