JIM MINGEY ATTENDS MILITARY FAMILIES DINNER AT GOVERNMENT HOUSE HOSTED BY FIRST LADY KATIE O’MALLEY
–For his work developing Veterans Business Services (“VBS”), a Maryland Service Disabled Veteran company focused on helping develop self-employment plans for Veterans interested in the franchise industry, Jim was one the honored Veteran guests at the Government House. He was asked to attend by the Maryland Department of Veterans Affairs and seen above with First Lady Katie O’Malley discussing other possible support for Veterans. Other dignitaries in attendance at Government House included the Secretary of Maryland Department of Veterans Affairs, Edward Chow, Jr.
So far VBS has received funding from both the Maryland Department of Economic Development (“DBED”) and the Veterans Administration. In addition Maryland’s TEDCO was an early supporter of the VBS Franchise Accelerator ™, a custom online due diligence tool for Veteran owned franchises and small businesses.
VBS has also been instrumental in helping create the Veterans Opportunity Fund in Maryland, a venture capital fund sponsored by TEDCO. The Fund is expected to raise $30 million for Veteran owned businesses around the State. A major motivation for creating the Fund was to develop an investment underwriting infrastructure for Veteran transactions which could eventually be leveraged to create a network of angel funds. These angel funds would then rely on that infrastructure to support more equity investments in Women, Minority and Service Disabled Veteran Small Businesses
